Description
We stopped in Charleston, South Carolina, USA to pick up a friend at the airport on our way to a week stay in Myrtle Beach, S.C. We had just enough time to explore downtown Charleston for 2 or 3 hours, and I would have given anything to have had much more time there. So much to see! Fascinating! The architecture is quite unlike anything we see in Colorado. I must revisit!
The Circular Congregational church really caught my eye with its amazing architecture! The church was originally built in 1681 by Charleston settlers. The church's cemetery is the oldest burial grounds in Charleston. The circular hall was added in 1804, but burned in 1861. Bricks from "Old Circular" were used to build the present day sanctuary which was completed in 1892.
