Description
I took a "golden hour" hike along the Spur Cross trail which meanders through the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation area in Cave Creek, Arizona. I intentionally arrived at 4:30 to catch the last hour of sunlight. As I approached a shelter area near the beginning of the hike I saw there was a crowd of people gathered and I thought I heard a wooden American Indian flute playing mournful melodies. When I arrived at the shelter I discovered a celebration of life was taking place for a well-known Cave Creek, Arizona gentleman who had passed on. I stood and listened to the beautiful music for a few minutes, then continued on my hike.
The hills were alive with so many different varieties of cacti - saguaro, ocotillo, palo verde, cholla to name a few. From a distant hillside I suddenly heard the wailing cry and barking of a coyote who was answered by two or more coyotes from another hill. The desert was alive in all its splendor!
