Ah yes, Lorraine, the monarch of the desert, the Saguaro Cactus. See how they grow in the protection of a nurse tree. Generally a Mesquite tree or a Palo Verde tree. Saguaro National Park is in my neck of the woods. The Sonoran Desert is amazing for sure. So glad you had the opportunity to see Phoenix' version of it. Phoenix is in the upper edge of the Sonoran desert. Phoenix has just gotten too crowded though. In returning from the Grand Canyon, it took us 1 1/2 hours to get through that city due to bumper to bumper traffic on I-10 at 4 PM already. Thank you for sharing your trip there. LF

Lorraine Baum replied:

Thank you so much for your visit and comments Janet. I have lived in Phoenix at two different points in my life and love the quiet desert beauty. This will not be my last trip there.
