Description
We had way too little time available in our schedule to explore the amazing Saint Simons Island, Georgia, USA, and are definitely going to have to go back for a longer look. We did, however have the opportunity to see the magnificent Saint Simons Island Lighthouse and attached museum. This is a digitally altered photo painting of a photograph seen elsewhere in my galleries.
"In 1804, John Couper, owner of Cannon’s Point Plantation, deeded four acres of land at the southern end of St. Simons to the Federal government as the site for a lighthouse.
In May 1807, James Gould was awarded the contract to build the St. Simons Lighthouse for $13,775. The project included plans for a dwelling house, separate kitchen, oil house, and well." Quoted from https://www.coastalgeorgiahistory.org/visit/st-simons-lighthouse-museum/
