Description
We had way too little time available in our schedule to explore the amazing Saint Simons Island, Georgia, USA, and are definitely going to have to go back for a longer look. We did, however have the opportunity to see the magnificent Saint Simons Island Lighthouse and attached museum.
"In 1804, John Couper, owner of Cannon’s Point Plantation, deeded four acres of land at the southern end of St. Simons to the Federal government as the site for a lighthouse.
In May 1807, James Gould was awarded the contract to build the St. Simons Lighthouse for $13,775. The project included plans for a dwelling house, separate kitchen, oil house, and well." Quoted from https://www.coastalgeorgiahistory.org/visit/st-simons-lighthouse-museum/

Thanks so much for the visit and comment Kathy! I am glad we took the little detour to see it, just wished we had had more time to spend there.
