Description
OK, I admit it; I'm a tree-hugger. I am wildly in love with trees, always have been, always will be! I pass this magnificent cottonwood on my evening walks through Mayfair Park that runs behind my house in Broomfield, Colorado and I stop to admire it every time I see it. On this occasion I took a closer look and discovered what intricate patterns were woven in the bark.
Members of the Poplar family, Populus Deltoids, cottonwood trees are the fastest-growing trees in North America. They can grow 100 feet tall, adding up to 6 feet per year. The female trees produce seeds incased in cotton-like coverings that create a mess in the yard and create havoc for people who suffer from allergies. There are 3 different varieties of cottonwoods and black cottonwoods are the ones growing in the Rocky Mountains
