Description
We stopped in Charleston, South Carolina to pick up a friend at the airport on our way to a week stay in Myrtle Beach, S.C. We had just enough time to explore downtown Charleston for 2 or 3 hours, and I would have given anything to have had much more time there. So much to see! Fascinating! The architecture is quite unlike anything we see in Colorado. I must revisit!
This is The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 120 Broad Street. Originally constructed between 1850 and 1854, the church was burned to the ground along with many other structures in 1861. After years spent generating funds to rebuild, the new building was begun in 1890. The structure of the cathedral is of Connecticut tool-chiseled brownstone.
